Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
